I have specialized in personal finance reporting for more than fifteen years. Formerly a staff writer with Forbes Magazine, I am a co-author of The Consumer Reports Money Book, and the author of Smarter Insurance Solutions (Bloomberg Press, 1996). I am currently a senior editor at Bloomberg Personal Finance Magazine.

I am also the mother of three kids, ages 13, 11 and nearly 4. I first became interested in writing this book when my older children came home from school after playing a stock market simulation game in class. They were intrigued, had lots of questions and had come away from the experience with some knowledge, but also some misunderstandings. This book grew out of my interest in better educating them on the topic.
